Does strength of honor affect bow attacks? I thought it was melee only?

Melee only is correct.

I'll add one.
If your running a ranger build that is built around spreading mass degen, bring debilitating shot and keep switching back to the monk and tagging him with it. Degen works by slowly straining a monks energy pool, Debilitating Shot will tap him out.

A combo I have recently come to enjoy is Apply poison-Quickshot. will keep any monk busy.

1 - Carry an energy source in your weapons load. I carry a +12 scroll in F3. As a second profession Elementalist I can use Firestorm, then change to F3 to get a +12 energy boost, enabling me to use Meteor Shower right away. Even though my energy is tapped out I can switch back to primary bow and resume fire.

altough a fun trick, the result is that you cast low level firestorms (in comparison to a fire ele) and then switch over to a bow that has no energy to make something powerfull of it. I don't think it is the most damage output of a ranger, but you are free to play it if you feel like it offcourse.

2 - Carry an efficient low-marksmanship bow. When I trap I need to steal attributes from other skills to get max WS. I have a 2 marksmanship bow I use when trapping. I still get reasonable bow damage without high marksmanship skills.
|
Is a good way to go, if you want your bow to back you up. when concentrating on trapping, then a staff will do fine, since it provides more energy for the trapping.

3 - Pack a closet full of armor. I have a trapping jacket and mask and a Beast Mastery mask as well as my usual Marksmanship armor. I change clothes depending on the mission.
|
yes, changing armor is a nice thing. easiest way is through headsets only.

I apologize if this is all common knowledge. Do you have other ranger tips to add?
|
- high expertise
- elementalists are made for you. harrass them.
- the ranger is a diverse class. specialise instead of trying all at once. you can always try one of the other routes later
- know your team. spirits are great, but sometimes hurt your team more then it helps if you don't know how your team is build up.

Conjure elements, a necro running orders, JI or Strength of honour/favorable winds - you do want a boost though, it's not really enough on its own.

Favorable winds is little, and conjures require a lot invested in them to be halfway effective. Smiting only changes the duration of JI, and you can always use an enchant mod if you so feel inclined. Plus you're less screwed if it gets stripped.

Savage Shot is a very powerfull skill. Try it out and you will find out that it's better than dis shot. Since monks are so hard to interupt just use savage out of the blue 50% of the time it will prabably interupt a spell.
Troll Unguent is very slow for PvP it's better to take Lightning Reflexes and Whirling. It will buy you a lot of time when those pesky warrior decide to take you on all by themselves.
If you use Quick Shot, 13 expertise and a Zealous Bow is a must.
Since Read The Wind got a boost Flatbows are really good now since they have the same range as a longbow and the same firing rate as a shortbow.
Don't be afraid to try new things.
When trapping you don't need 16 WS. 12 will do fine and you will have more points to put in insparation and expertise.
Don't stack spike traps on top of each other try and lay em out on an even line. It's fun to watch a flag runner trip over each one of your spike traps.
Being on higher ground than your enemy will give you a farther range and you will be able to do more damage.
